This is Major General Philip Efiong’s account of the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War (1967–1970). As a key player and second-in-command to Biafran leader General Ojukwu, Efiong details the January and July 1966 coups and the ensuing ethnic conflicts. Forced to escape to the East after the second coup, Efiong recounts the breakdown of talks that led to the Eastern Region's secession and the outbreak of war in July 1967.
